Gas Saving Tips

With the rising price of gas and diesel prices, we have to take it upon ourselves to do everything we can to save money.

There are many different things we can do as individuals to help offset the rising cost of gas, and with today's economy every little bit helps

Listed below are several tips and options available to help save money at the pump.  With these gas saving products and gas saving devices, along with some gas saving tips, you will be on your way to putting money back in your wallet and not the oil company's wallet!

Tips We Can Use Every Day To Save Gas

Purchase items such as Prepaid Gas Cards and Coupons.

Buying Prepaid Gas Cards or Coupons are great ways to save at the pump.

Unnecessary Idling

  • Even though its summer and we're not warming up our car, many of us may crank the car to cool it!  This can burn precious gas and is a big money waster.  If you have to crank your car to cool it off, only run it for a couple of minutes at most before you start driving.  This should be plenty of time for a properly working air conditioner to start cooling the car.  Also using window shades or parking in the shade can keep your car cooler and lessen the need for running the car to cool it off.

Get Rid Of The Dead Weight

Empty out the trunk or the bed of the truck.  This will reduce the weight of your vehicle and make it more efficient to drive.

Plan Your Trips

Try to combine trips and use popular online mapping programs such as MapQuest to make sure you take the shortest route possible.  Going to the grocery store on Monday and then to the bookstore on Tuesday could possibly be done in the same day on the same trip.

Try carpooling.  Check with neighbors and friends to see if you can carpool, you never know if someone may be going your way, and splitting the cost could save you both a great deal of money.

Things We Can Do To Save Money AT THE GAS PUMP

At least once a month, check your tire pressure for proper inflation.  Check your manual for the proper inflation requirements.  A tire pressure gauge can be purchased for under a dollar and you can check the pressure at the pump in just a few seconds.  Tires with too much or too little air can cost you precious gas mileage.

Buy gas in the early mornings or late evenings when it is cooler outside.

Never top the gas tank off, fill until the handle clicks off and stop!  Don't put anymore gas in after it clicks off the first time.

Make sure to tighten your gas cap, make sure it "clicks" when you tighten it.

Things We Can Do To Save Money While We Are Driving

Drive the speed limit or drive even slower than the speed limit if traffic permits.  Gas mileage decreases rapidly at speeds above 60 miles per hour.

Avoid jackrabbit starts and stops.  Always try to accelerate and decelerate as slow as possible.

Use cruise control and overdrive whenever possible.

If you are at a stoplight, an accident or any other occurrence where you will be idling more than 2 minutes, turn the car off.

Things We Can Do To Our Vehicles
To Improve Gas Mileage

Get a tune-up.  Air filters, spark plugs, spark plug wires, fuel filters, oil and oil filters all need to be checked and changed periodically to give your vehicle the best performance.

Injector cleaners and other fuel additives can improve your vehicles efficiency.  To make sure you use the proper additive, check your manual or speak to your local mechanic.

Aftermarket fuel savers are another alternative.  With gas mileage improvements upwards to 65%, these enhancers are becoming very popular items to install on gas and diesel burning vehicles.

Tornado Fuel Savers and HHO Hydrogen Generators are two of the more popular alternative fuel enhancements available to help improve your vehicles gas mileage.

Remember, we have to take it upon ourselves and do what we can to save money.  With the rising cost of gas and diesel, we hope these gas saving tips will help you put money back where it belongs. IN YOUR WALLET!
